Can you believe that we are now in the final month of 2018 and preparations are underway for our first Community Christmas Event. There is a lot of work going into this to ensure we have everything covered to have our church connect with the community.
Let’s be praying for this event as we want to bring a clear message about the truth of Christmas. It should be a fun day and a great gift we can give to families who live nearby.
The Christmas season is about celebration and an opportunity to have family come together and spend time with friends. It’s a season that is known and mostly recognised around the world and comes with many different traditions.
The truth behind our celebrations is not the different gatherings but the reality that God was faithful to His promise and sent His one and only Son—all because He loves us. The coming of Jesus is the start of new life for us when we recognise the need to leave our old life behind and embrace this new life through Him. Jesus has saved us and taken our sin away through the sacrifice He made on our behalf.
“Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come. Now all these things are from God, who reconciled us to Himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation…” 2 Corinthians 5:17-18
The celebrations started soon after Jesus was born as heaven erupted in praise for the coming King of kings and Lord of lords. Angels came to some shepherds who were nearby and announced to them that a Saviour is born. The Bible says “…there appeared… a multitude of heavenly host praising God and saying, “Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace among men with whom He is pleased.” Luke 2:13-14
Christmas is Good News for everyone and is in need of all our celebrations because He came for all mankind. We should never forget what God has done for us in sending Jesus and every opportunity we get we should be celebrating with praise and worship to God who all glory and exaltation is given.
New life leads into a new day for those who follow Jesus. What our lives were before Jesus is no longer the life we live today because through Him we have been renewed. The new day presents new opportunities for us to live in a new way in Christ.
Our celebrations are not confined to Christmas but extended every day because Jesus still lives today. It says in the Bible “This is the day which the Lord has made; Let us rejoice and be glad in it.” Psalms 118:24
When we enter the new year, let’s take the approach that whatever is happening to us, good or bad that we can be reminded that tomorrow is a new day. It’s a day the Lord has created and new opportunities are lying in wait for us.
You may receive many gifts this Christmas, but the true gift comes from God as new life, a new day and new things all through the gift of His Son. Approach the new year of 2019 in this new way: “…so that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom belongs the glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.” 1 Peter 4:11c
Have a great Christmas and thank you in advance for helping us out for our Community Christmas Event. We needed you.
